Michele Brown, Belmonte Builders CFO

By February 16, 2018Employee Spotlight

Michele Brown, CFO Belmonte BuildersOver the past 25 years, Michele has held many titles at Belmonte Builders.  We are proud to have her as our CFO and excited for her appointment this year as President of the Capital Region Builders & Remodelers Association (CRBRA).

We first met Michele when we hired her accounting firm to help us with our books.   As Belmonte Builders began to grow, we leaned on her more and more to help us set-up new systems and manage our growth.  We knew a good thing when we saw it and in 1993 asked her to join our family business full-time.  Since then, Michele’s done everything from answering phones, ordering office supplies, writing contracts and managing the books to budgeting, strategic planning, managing land acquisitions, marketing, website development and managing human resources to hire and keep the best employees.  Having spent time on a family farm, Michele is a firm believer in teamwork, is not afraid of hard work, has a passion for knowledge and loves a challenge.  From her first day at Belmonte Builders, Michele has grabbed every opportunity to learn the business of home building from the ground up.   It’s that intimate knowledge of our business, the people involved and what it takes to be successful that makes her a great leader.

Ever since Michele was a little girl, she has been interested in politics and has understood the importance of being heard.  So it’s no surprise that, as an adult, she jumped on the opportunity to be a charter member of the Professional Women in Building (PWB) of Northeastern New York, the first chartered women’s council of NAHB in New York State.   PWB is dedicated to promoting, enhancing and supporting homebuilding and women within the industry and encourages member’s active involvement in the political and legislative process.  That’s where Michele first learned to use her voice to represent not only women in building, but the building industry as a whole in our legislature ensuring that they know what we need and expect from our local and national government.

As the newly named President of the CRBRA, 2018 is a big year for Michele as CRBRA transitions to a permanent home located at 10 Old Plank Road in Clifton Park.  The building itself is truly unique for an organization.  Previously a church, the building includes a large two-story addition and will be renovated to fit the organization’s needs.  A new committee will be created to manage the construction planning and development.

Michele’s passion for personal development is reflected in her top priority for CRBRA this year.  Her goal is to broaden the association membership to include all professional roles and levels in the building industry from the entry level estimator to the seasoned builder.  Michele attributes her success to her membership in both CRBRA and PWB and the incredible networks that opened up to her through membership.  She’d like to share those resources and empower anyone who wants the opportunity to better themselves, their career and the building industry.

Another goal Michele has in her role as President of CRBRA  is to grow engagement in its councils and committees.  She firmly believes that that each member can make a difference. As a member of the Legislative Action Committee, Michele has seen up close the impact they have at the local, regional & national levels.  Her committee was a driving force in the fight against the fire sprinkler mandate, made enormous strides with the PSC’s assistance in getting National Grid to be more responsive and reasonable in how they provide utilities to our neighborhoods, and most recently, helped the NAHB  successfully lobby in DC regarding tax reform by reaching a compromise regarding property and state tax deductions and mortgage interest deductions in the final legislation.
