The holiday season is in full swing which means lots of holiday baking and entertaining. So we thought it would fun to share our team’s family favorites with you. From entrees to sides to desserts, many of these recipes are are family traditions that have been passed down through generations. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
This was my Grandma Streicher’s recipe, my mom’s mom, who lived in Rochester, NY. She always made this bread for us at the holidays and it was wonderful. She had to make extra loaves as the whole family loved this special Irish Bread. We would slice it up and put it in the toaster and then finish it off with some homemade jam. While baking it my grandparent’s kitchen would have such a warm sweet aroma. My Aunt Annette has carried the tradition on for us and we are all very thankful for that.
This recipe isn’t over an open fire, but what says “Christmas” more than Roasted Chestnuts! Thanks to Tina, Sales Associate at Alexandria, for this classic family recipe.
This is my mother’s “dressing” recipe. My family is from the south, so it isn’t stuffing! This recipe is special to me because my mom learned to make this from my grandmother, and it was always my favorite part of Thanksgiving and sometimes Christmas. I’m so glad to have this in my mother’s handwriting…it makes it extra special to me.
In Mike’s family, oyster soup was always served up for Christmas Eve dinner. His favorite part as a boy was the rich and creamy broth. He doesn’t know why or when this became their family tradition, but it brings back homey, holiday memories even today. The soup is super easy to make and is a rich and satisfying comfort food in the winter months.
This is a recipe that my mother in law gave me soon after my husband and I were married. It’s his favorite meal. She used to make it for him on his birthday growing up, so I try to carry on that tradition to keep them both happy.
Julie looks forward to making these cookies every year with her sisters, friends and their kids. It’s their tradition to meet up the first weekend of December at her sister’s home to make a little holiday magic together!
I used to make these with my mother as a kid. You would put the cookie dough in a cookie press, which is a cylinder shaped device. The dough goes in one end and you put a pattern to squeeze it through on the other. The most common patterns we used were a Christmas tree, star, dog and a wreath. It is very time consuming as you have to press each one out individually. I remember having a great time decorating them with my mother and now have followed that tradition with my kids and grandkids.
