Especially for those moving to a new area, finding the school that’s right for your family can be a real challenge. In our continuing series on area school districts, we’re providing a quick overview to help you begin to get a handle on the system that’s right for you and your kids. Today, we continue with Stillwater Central Schools.
Over its two building campus, Stillwater serves more than 1,200 students. For parents of younger children, they offer universal pre-kindergarten as well as full-day Kindergarten and an impressive array of elementary clubs and activities. SCSD boasts an 18-1 student to teacher ratio with a graduation rate of 94%, with 90% of graduates going on to two- or four-year colleges.
Stillwater prides itself on its ability to offer small class sizes and focused attention while still providing the amenities and extra-curriculars of a much larger district. Offering 35 varsity, junior varsity and modified sports teams as well as an array of music groups, drama and fine arts programs, roughly 75% of students in the district participate in some sort of interscholastic sport or after school club. This provides for a tight knit community and support system, invested in the success of its students both in school and at home.
If you feel your children could benefit from a smaller school experience, but don’t want to sacrifice the opportunities and experiences larger districts have to offer, Stillwater is truly a rare and exceptional opportunity. Their focused attention paired with an unparalleled community of support can provide your kids the tools they need to excel academically and personally.
