When most folks hear the words “Energy Star”, the first things that come to mind are “fluorescent lights” and “turning the AC off,” but there’s really so much more to it than that. In recent decades there have been monumental advances in home technology that not only save consumers money in energy costs, but also just make for more efficient and comfortable homes. We at Belmonte Builders in our continued commitment to innovation, are proud to be at the forefront of Energy Star Home certification.
So what is “an “Energy Star Certified New Home”? In short, a new home is Energy Star Certified when it is constructed, and verified by a 3rd party agency, to be at least 15% more energy efficient than the national average. These homes save their owners roughly $300 a year in energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3,700 pounds annually.
An Energy Star Certified home isn’t just about the savings though; these specifications also ensure a streamlined more efficient home through their rigorous checks and building practices. Careful attention to air sealing, high performance insulation and special windows and doors cut down on drafts and cold spots in the winter, while sealing in cold air through the hot summer months, producing more comfortable and consistent temperatures all year round. Fresh air systems can also allow for a controlled amount of exterior air flow which, coupled with a high-performance filter, creates less dust and cleaner air than non Energy Star homes. Lastly, Energy Star water maintenance systems protect ceilings walls and foundations from water damage, extending the life of your new home.
Energy Star Certification means your new house will function at peak efficiency, while also providing big savings on your home utility bills. It’s just one more way we at Belmonte Builders are committed to building you the home of your dreams
