CLIFTON PARK — Belmonte Builders’ proposal to donate over 88 acres of wooded land off Bonneau Road was accepted by a unanimous vote of Clifton Park’s board of directors. According to Clifton Park Town Supervisor, Phil Barrett, the town had been interested in obtaining the parcels for some time.
“We’ve always known that the Town of Clifton Park had aspirations to own that parcel of land,” stated Pete Belmonte, President of Belmonte Builders. “Several years ago there were conversations about the Town of Clifton Park acquiring the Stony Creek Reservoir. After that discussion took place, it became clear to us that the best use of the land would be in the hands of the town. The Town of Clifton Park hasn’t been able to acquire the reservoir yet, but I’m hopeful they will. In the meantime, they can use the land we donated to continue the West Sky Trail.” Belmonte said.
Currently the popular West Sky Trail stops at Bonneau Road. With the donation, the town could potentially continue that trail through the donated land all the way to Judith Drive. While the Town of Clifton Park has no immediate plans to develop or add trails on the land at this point, the donated land is adjacent to the Stony Creek Reservoir which was listed as a priority for preservation in the Clifton Park 1995 Comprehensive Plan.
“We consider it a beautiful piece of property that the town will benefit from for many years to come,” Barrett said. “It’s important to protect that area. We believed it was very valuable from that standpoint.”
