Congratulations to Curtis Lumber Designer, Heather Bodnaryk for winning the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s “Best New Kitchen over 300 sq. ft.” Heather was presented the award on December 6th at the Annual National Kitchen & Bath (NKBA) Tri State Chapter Design Competition for her Belmonte Builders’ kitchen layout.
Heather worked directly with our homeowners to create this award-winning design. She loved the opportunity to design a kitchen with solid wood maple stained cabinets and helped the homeowners realize their vision of elegance and functionality. “Designing for the Hefner’s was such a great experience,” said Bodnaryk “because they knew what they wanted and let me help them bring it to life. It was incredibly satisfying designing the kitchen to work for all their needs, especially since I know it’s a room they will use every day.”
We are so happy to see Heather’s hard work rewarded with and proud that she designs kitchens for Belmonte Builders. Way to go Heather!
Corner cabinets are always tricky. They are deep and are at risk for creating frustrating “dead spaces.” A typical solution for corner cabinets is a lazy susan. In this case, Heather took that space and used it to house and effectively showcase the double ovens.
From a practical standpoint, the corner oven layout works nicely in this design. It creates a work triangle with countertops on either side of the oven along with the cook top in close proximity.
The next time you’re working at the countertop in your kitchen, take a look down at your feet. More than likely you won’t be able to see your toes, because they’re actually positioned underneath the front edge of your cabinets, in the toe kick.
In most kitchens the toe kick is either painted black or the same color as the cabinets, to make it blend and disappear. Heather took a different approach. She took this humble detail and used it to add a touch of elegance. By adding a toe kick furniture valance and pairing it with an upper valance for the hood, she elevated the look of the design giving it a more polished, high-end “furniture” look.
As with the furniture valance toe-kick, Heather paid attention to another overlooked detail to elevate the look of this design – the exposed sides of the cabinets. To create a more finished, high-end effect, she added decorative door panels on the exposed sides of the cabinets.
